The training of Eucharistic Ministers for parishes is provided and tailored to suit the needs of each particular parish. Quite a number of parishes request that the course be provided as a full-day training session. This is normally carried out here at Thornhill Centre. It is an opportunity for a parish group to come to the Centre, enjoy its environs and receive their training in an atmosphere conducive to reflection.
The course may also be provided over a series of evenings – usually three – and may be held at the Centre or at a venue within the parish.
All courses that pertain to ministries relating to the Liturgy contain catechesis on the Mass.
The Eucharistic Ministry Course also explores the inspiration from the Gospels for the ministry, the evolution of the ministry in the Church, and relevant Church documents. There is a strong element of prayer and reflection during the training days as well as an opportunity to examine the practical dimension of exercising the ministry.
New Eucharistic Ministers are then commissioned for a period of 3 years in a ceremony within a Celebration of the Eucharist in the parish.
